    Police arrest Indian man for vandalising cables at Dangote refinery

    An Indian man, Nitheshi Kumar, has been arraigned before a Lagos Federal High Court, for allegedly vandalized some electric cables at the Dangote Petrochemical and Oil Refinery Project, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

    Nitheshi was arraigned before the court presided over by Justice Daniel Osiagor, by the men of the Nigeria Police, on a two count charge of Conspiracy and unlawfully remove, tamper, meddle with and interfere with cables and assembly of wires meant to be used for converting electricity into the refinery.

    The prosecutor, Mr. Effiong Asuquo, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), while arraigning the defendant on Monday, in a charge marked FHC/L/291c/2021, told the court that the defendant and an one other person, now at large, committed the offence on October 7, 2021.

    ACP Asuquo told the court that the offences committed by the defendant are contrary to and punishable under section 3 (6) and 1(9) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act Cap f Mi7 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

    The defendant, who is a water tanker driver, denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

    Following his not guilty plea, the prosecutor, ACP Asuquo, asked the court for a trial date, while also asked the court to remand the defendant till the determination of the charge.

    The defendant’s counsel, McAnthony A., informed the court that he was just briefed of the matter, and needed a little time to file the defendant’s bail application.

    Justice Osiagor, after listened to the Counsel’s submissions, adjourned the matter till November 19, for trial, while ordered that the defendant be remanded in the custody of Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS).
