One killed as bandits abduct family of six in Kogi

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) announced on Thursday the names of terrorist and bandits kingpins slain in various operations across the country's north.

One person has been reportedly killed by bandits while his six family members were kidnapped on a farm at Labgeta community of Kogi State.

The incident happened in the Labgeta neighbourhood, which is situated on the major Abuja-Lokoja expressway.

According to Ishaya Bulus, a victim’s relative, the incident occurred on Wednesday as the victims were picking beniseeds at their property.

“They were busy harvesting Beniseeds when the kidnappers suddenly appeared and rounded them up at gunpoint.”

He narrated the incident, saying that one of the victims attempted to flee and was shot by one of the kidnappers while they were transporting the victims into the forest.

He added the deceased’s remains had been deposited at a mortuary and that his family had yet to make contact with the kidnappers about the whereabouts of the others in the bush.

The incident was confirmed by a member of the Kotonkarfe Local Government Area vigilante, who requested anonymity. He said that the vigilantes were searching the forests around the area for the kidnappers’ hideout.

The Kogi State Police Command was yet to confirm the incident as at press time.
