CJN grills chief judges over ex parte orders

Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) and chairman, National Judicial Council (NJC), Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, will Monday grill six chief judges over conflicting court orders that emanated from their states.
Already, the CJN has demanded the records of proceedings in all the suits from which the conflicting ex parte orders emanated.
The affected states are: Rivers, Kebbi, Cross River, Anambra, Jigawa and Imo. There are indications that the chief judge of Delta State has also been invited to meet with the CJN.
The Guardian gathered that the move is meant to consolidate the anti-corruption efforts of the Tanko leadership and entrench a culture of accountability in the judiciary.
Muhammad is also likely to meet with the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association in the course of the week, over the matter.
Director of Information, National Judicial Council, Mr. Soji Oye, confirmed the development in a telephone conversation.
