UAE hosts Afghan President Ghani after his escape from Kabul
Embattled President of Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani has taken refuge in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after he fled his country amidst a hostile takeover by the Taliban.
“The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation can confirm that the UAE has welcomed President Ashraf Ghani and his family into the country on humanitarian grounds,” it said in a brief statement.
President Ghani fled Afghanistan on Sunday as the Taliban reached Kabul, saying he was doing so to avoid bloodshed.
