Suspected armed herders took along with them the children of the deceased

At least eight persons have been confirmed killed by Fulani herdsmen in Mgbuji community, Eha-Amufu, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State.

A pregnant woman was reportedly among the victims who were slaughtered. Her stomach was opened and her fetus removed.

The assailants also destroyed farmlands in the wake of their mayhem. Scores of residents are still missing after the deadly attack.

According to community members, the attackers blamed Nnamdi Kanu and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) for their action.

The community shares a border with the Benue community.

Bishop of Anglican Diocese of Eha-Amufu, Rt Rev Daniel Nkemjika Olinya, confirmed the incident, adding that this is the third time the community members are being slaughtered like animals in 2021.

“The last before this Sunday’s led to the death of six people. Five of them have not been buried. They came again this time and killed eight persons,” he said.

Olinya further linked the killings to the eviction notice given to the herdsmen.

“Some of those kidnapped and released said the herdsmen insisted that they would continue there until IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, dropped his agitations for Biafra,” he said
