Seven die as Taraba govt confirm Cholera outbreak

The Taraba state government has confirmed the outbreak of Cholera in the state. The outbreak was announced by Dr. Innocent Vakkai, the Commission of Health for the state.

According to reports, seven persons have died from the outbreak which occurred in Tella town, Gassol Local Government Council, while many others have been hospitalised.

The commissioner, while confirming the incident today in Jalingo, assured that a team of health workers have been deployed to the community to investigate the situation.

Vakkai added that the government has made efforts to stop the disease from spreading to other parts of the state.

The council chairman, Musa Chul, who also confirmed the outbreak, said no fewer than 25 persons are presently receiving medications in health facilities spread across the town as a result of the disease.

Chul said the deceased were said to have been stooling and vomiting.

He vowed that the council would not relent in its efforts to remove the disease from the area, urging residents to adhere to hygiene protocols.

Some residents of the community, who also spoke to newsmen, expressed their readiness to abide strictly to hygienic measures that would prevent them from coming in contact with the disease.
