The Senate Committee on Tuesday rejected the confirmation of Lauretta Onochie as a National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Chairman of the Committee, Kabiru Gaya, in his report said Onochie did not satisfy the provisions of the Federal Character Principles.
The Senate committee composed of both the APC and PDP members unanimously voted against her nomination.
Sen. Gaya said the committee rejected the nomination of Ms Onochie because there is already a National Commissioner of INEC, Mrs May Agbamuche, representing Delta State in the Commission.
Ms Onochie had faced the Senate Committee last week to defend her appointment and clear the air on her relationship with the ruling political party, All Progressives Congress (APC).
The media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari declared that she has since parted company with the APC and is not an active member of the party.
The Senate also stepped down the nomination of Professor Sani Mohammad Adam (North Central) to allow for further legislative action.
This followed the consideration of the report of Senate Committee on INEC, presented by the chairman of the committee, Senator Gaya.
