President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the nomination of Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo as the acting Director General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) on Monday.

In a letter to the Minister of State, Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, the President noted that a substantial appointment will be made in the future.

Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity to the President, in a terse statement said President Buhari directed Mr Keyamo to appoint a successor.

“President Muhammadu Buhari has formally conveyed to the Hon. Minister of State, Labour and Employment, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, his approval of the nomination of Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo as the Acting Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment pending the appointment of a substantive Director-General for the Agency.

“Last month, Mr. President relieved the former DG of the agency of the appointment and directed the Minister to nominate an Acting DG to superintend over the Agency pending the appointment of a substantive DG.”

It would be recalled that the Nigerian Senate in December 2020 urged President Buhari to reverse the sack of Dr. Nasiru Mohammed Ladan Argungu who was relieved of his duties for insubordination.
