No fewer than eight persons have died in an accident involving a trailer and commercial bus on the Ibadan-Ife Expressway, Celica bus stop, Ibadan on Tuesday.

The accident, according to sources, occurred as a result of brake failure on the part of the trailer carrying a container heading towards the Ife Expressway.

The trailer was said to have veered off the road and collided with the 16-seater bus said to be coming from Abuja.

Eyewitnesses, who betrayed emotions while speaking on the incident, explained they were incapacitated from rescuing victims of the accident, which occurred as early as 6:30am.

A source, who claimed to have helped when the incident happened, said: “This morning as early as 6:30am this vehicle on the ground (the trailer), I was somewhere at the front on the other side. The truck had suffered brake failure from Iyana Agbala axis, and personally, I brought out two dead bodies from the vehicle after the accident.

“Everybody around ran away from the scene when it happened because it was so serious.

“I am a driver and I have had an experience of such issues was why I had to go to the scene to help in rescue efforts.

“The truck driver actually tried a lot to ensure that nobody died as he had been battling with the brake failure and dragging the truck along for a while until he veered off into the commercial bus.”

Residents and other road users along the Ibadan-Ife expressway blamed the incident on the fact that the road users are only using one lane as the road is under construction.
