Nigeria announces 796 new coronavirus cases

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced 796 confirmed new coronavirus cases in the country on Friday.

The 796 cases announced by the Centre for Disease Control takes the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 72,140.

The NCDC also announced the discharge of 248 patients from isolation centers across the country with no new death reported.

The Federal Capital Territory again recorded the highest number of cases with 258 persons testing positive.

Lagos state, the epicentre of the virus in Nigeria reported 248 new confirmed cases taking the total number of confirmed cases in Lagos alone to 24,614.

Kaduna recorded 117 new cases, Katsina state reported 52, Ogun state recorded 27, Kwara state 23 and Gombe state 22 new cases.

Other states are Adamawa-17, Plateau-15, Kano-6, Rivers-2, Ondo-2, Ekiti-2, Nasarawa-2, Sokoto-2 and Taraba-1.

NCDC reports that there are 72,140 cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria with 65,722 discharged and 1,190 deaths.
