Fire guts Oando tank farm in Lagos

The Oando tank farm along Gaskiya road, Ijora Badia area of Lagos on Thursday was gutted by fire, the Lagos state emergency agency said.
The cause of the fire is not known at the time of filing this report but the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said the situation was under control.
“A combined response team of public and private stakeholders have managed to localize the fire and prevent it from spreading to any secondary sites or adjoining locations,” LASEMA said.
Although the emergency agency did not provide update on the extent of damage done, it explained that it was only the tank farm that was affected.
“The Oando tank farm however has a capacity of 7.5 million litres. It is currently burning off in a controlled manner.
“All appropriate measures to combat the flames and prevent secondary incidents have been taken.
“Lagosians are urged to remain calm. Further updates will follow,” LASEMA said in a series of tweet.
Earlier LASEMA had explained that, “The agency has activated its emergency response plan, relevant stakeholders have commenced appropriate measures to combat the flames and prevent secondary incidents.”
