Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state has announced the members of the Judicial Panel of Inquiry on the alleged illegal activities of officers of Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad in the state.
Akeredolu stated that the Judicial Panel Of Inquiry will investigate police brutality that led to the #EndSARS protests across the country.
He said the members include; Hon. Justice Salisu Adesola Sidiq (Rtd) Rtd. High Court Judge – Chairperson; Mrs. Banke Oloba, representative of Civil Society Groups – Member; Ifeanyi Odili, representative of Civil Society Group – Member and Oluyemi Fasipe, Youth Representative – Member.
He explained that the terms of reference of the Judicial Panel of Inquiry is as follows;
(i) To receive and investigate complaints of police brutality or related extra- judicial killings by the police in Ondo State
(ii) To evaluate evidence and draw conclusion on validity of complains
(iii) To recommend compensation and other remedial measures
(iv) To carry out any other assignment that may be deemed necessary pursuant to this purpose.
He noted that the Judicial Panel of Inquiry has six months to conclude its assignment and submit its report.
Other members that will part of the process are Mr. Samuel Adetuyi, retired Commissioner of Police; Mr. Leo Ologun, representative of the office of the state Attorney-General; Mr Sunday Oyewole, representative from the National Human Rights Commission and Mr. Lanre Amuda as Secretary.
