Nigeria passes 40,000 coronavirus cases

Lassa fever claims 162 lives - NCDC

The number of new cases of coronavirus in Nigeria rose by 555 in 24 hours, taking the new total pass the 40,000 mark on Sunday.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced the confirmed coronavirus cases during its daily update via social media.

The 555 cases announced by the Centre for Disease Control takes the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 40532.

The NCDC also announced the discharge of 426 patients from isolation centers across the country with two new deaths reported.

Lagos state, the epicentre of the virus in Nigeria topped the number of confirmed cases with 156 new cases taking the total number of confirmed cases in Lagos alone to 14456.

Kano recorded 65 new cases, Ogun reported 57 new cases while Plateau, Oyo and Benue recorded 54, 53 and 43 new cases respectively.

Other states are FCT-30, Ondo-18, Kaduna-16, Akwa Ibom-13, Gombe-13, Rivers-12, Ekiti-9, Osun-8, Cross River-3, Borno-2, Edo-2 and Bayelsa-1.

NCDC reports that there are 40532 cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria with 17374 discharged and 858 deaths.
