FLASH: Nigeria announces 553 new coronavirus cases

Lassa fever claims 162 lives - NCDC

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced 553 confirmed new coronavirus cases in the country on Saturday the highest single one day cases.

The 553 cases announced by the Centre for Disease Control takes the total number of confirmed cases to 9855.

The NCDC also announced the discharge of 159 patients from isolation centers across the country with 12 new deaths reported.

Lagos state, the epicentre of the virus in Nigeria topped the number of confirmed cases with 378 new cases taking the total number of confirmed cases in Lagos alone to 4755.

The Federal Capital Territory reported 52 new cases while Delta recorded 23 and Edo state 22.

Other states are Kano-9, Borno-7, Katsina-6, Jigawa-5, Oyo-5, Yobe-3, Plateau-3 and Osun-1.

NCDC reports that there are 9855 cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria with 2856 discharged and 273 deaths.
