    FLASH: Nigeria announces 204 new coronavirus cases

    The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced the single highest number of COVID-19 cases since coronavirus pandemic broke out in the country.

    The 204 cases announced by the Centre for Disease Control is eight more than the 196 announced on Thursday an indication that lifting the lockdown could have too early.

    For the first time, Kano topped the number of cases in Lagos with 80 confirmed cases reported in the northern state and 45 in Lagos – the epicentre of the virus in Nigeria.

    The NCDC also reported more discharged cases and more deaths on Wednesday, taking the total number of discharged persons to 319 and deaths to 58, seven more than the 51 reported yesterday.

    “204 new cases of COVID-19 reported; 80-Kano, 45-Lagos, 12-Gombe, 9-Bauchi, 9-Sokoto, 7-Borno, 7-Edo, 6-Rivers, 6-Ogun, 4-FCT, 4-Akwa Ibom, 4-Bayelsa, 3-Kaduna, 2-Oyo, 2-Delta, 2-Nasarawa, 1-Ondo and 1-Kebbi.

    “As at 11:50pm 30th April, 1932 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria with 319 patients discharged and 58 deaths recorded.

    Urging Nigerians to take responsibility, the NCDC said as at April 30 2020, 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Nigeria have recorded at least one confirmed case of COVID-19.

    The centre also report that 71% of all cases are from three states. Lagos with 976 cases, Kano with 219 and the Federal Capital Territory with 178 cases.

    Chronicle NG had on Thursday reported that a nursing mother, Mrs Amaka Okoro, who tested positive for COVID-19 wanted for treatment.

    According to the governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki, the nursing mother and her baby were already coughing.

    “She lives at No 2 Atoe Idubor Street, off 2nd Ugbor, Benin City and she has been unreachable since her results was positive,” the governor said.
