Nigerians celebrate Pastor Adeboye at 78

Rapture: Adeboye hints at Jesus' second coming

Nigerians have taken to social media to celebrate the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye as he turns 78 on March 2.

Politicians, public office holders and other prominent citizens joined thousands to wish the prominent religious leader a Happy Birthday on Monday.

In the early hours of Monday, Pastor Adeboye tweeted, “Thank You Jesus for Miracles, Signs and Wonders” along with a picture of himself and the figure 78 across it.


Messages have been pouring in since his tweet. Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state who presented Pastor Adeboye a birthday card on behalf of citizens in the state said, “Baba, you are a reputable religious leader who has made positive impacts in the lives of multitudes over the years and around the globe”.

A member of the 9th House of Representatives, Hon. Ben Igbakpa wrote, “Not many people walk this earth to become really important leaders. Daddy G.O is a great man with an incredible mind, He has lived an inspirational life, and God has blessed him with an ageless body and spirit even at the age of 78.”

Writing a birthday message, Akintunde Kehinde Dare tweeted, “Happy Birthday Daddy. May the Lord be with you more and more and give you the Grace to finish well. More strength to win more souls for Christ in Jesus progressive mighty name,” he tweeted.

“Happy Hearty Birthday to you my beloved Daddy, my Father in the Lord. God bless you Sir. God will keep strengthening you. I love you so much,” said Olaiya Simileoluwa.

Oladele Rachel’s message wasn’t any different. “Happy birthday Pastor Adeboye, may the blessings of the Lord overflow in your life and family. God bless you for us Daddy.”

RCCG parishes also joined in celebrating their general overseer on his 78th birthday.

Born on 2 March, 1942 in Ifewara, Osun state, Pastor Adeboye went to the University of NIgeria (UNN) in Nsukka but because of the Nigeria Civil War, he completed his first degree in the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics in 1967.

That same year, he married Foluke Adenike.

They have four children namely: Adeolu Adeboye, Bolu Adubi (nee Adeboye), Leke Adeboye and Dare Adeboye.

In 1969, he obtained a master’s degree in hydrodynamics from University of Lagos.

He joined the Redeemed Christian Church of God in 1973 and began interpreting Yoruba to English by Pastor Josiah Olufemi Akindayomi.

In 1975, he obtained a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Lagos. He holds a position as Professor of Mathematics at University of Lagos.
