COVID-19: Osinbajo leads Nigeria’s economic sustainability committee

FEC, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will lead Nigeria's Economic Sustainability Committee

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will chair the Economic Sustainability Committee constituted by President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday.

The committee is expected to look at the economic challenges and fallout from the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) and proffer solutions for recovery.

In a tweet by Laolu Akande, spokesperson to the Vice President, the committee members will include ministers and heads of departments and agencies.

In his tweet he said, “The President today constituted an Economic Sustainability Committee he asked me to chair, on how to implement strategies to alleviate sufferings of Nigerians at this time,” VP Osinbajo says at a Google Hangout where young Nigerian tech innovators discussed impact of COVID19.

“The Committee is to take care of the economic challenges and fallouts of the pandemic & the restrictions. Besdies developing further palliatives, Committee will also develop a Sustainability Plan repositioning the economy and growing the non-oil sector.

“Members are Ministers of Finance, Zainab Ahmed; Minister of State for Budget and Planning, Clement Agba; Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Richard Adebayo; Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige; Petroleum Resources (State) Timipre Sylva; CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele; GMD NNPC, Mele Kyari with the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation as Secretary.

Mr Akande explained that the Google Hangout was organized by HACK COVID-19 Call Center in Abuja, earlier today.

“The HACK COVID-19 is a private sector initiative to share solutions, public information and ideas on COVID19 and how public and private sector can collaborate on the response to the pandemic.

“The Google Hangout was moderated by Ore Disu and other tech innovators participated online.”
