UPDATE: Two feared dead, scores injured in Abule Egba explosion

Two persons have been reportedly dead in a multiple pipeline explosion that blazed through Abule Egba, a suburb in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria on Sunday.

Scores of people are said to have been injured after the fire razed tens of buildings in the area.

The explosion also torched many shops and vehicles.

The fire that started around Ile-Epo bus stop was said to have stretched to Abule Egba, Fagba and Ekoro Road.

Lagos State Government has reacted promptly to the incident.

Commissioner for Information Mr Gbenga Omotoso said: ā€œA pipeline fire has been reported at Abule Egba. LASEMA and other security/emergency agencies has activated its machinery to fight the fireā€.

The Lagos State Emergency Response Agency has activated the Stateā€™s Emergency Response Plan.

LASEMA Response Teams and other first Responders have been mobilised to both incident sites.

Though the Agencyā€™s Dolphin Squad is at the Ilepo Bus Stop Abule Egba Fire Incident, LASEMA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu led his official to the Fagba Pipeline fire with the Tiger Squad from Command Control Centre.

He was also at the scene of other pipeline explosion at Ekoro near Pipeline Bus Stop.

Residents were said to have flee their homes.

Those living afar said they were keeping vigil and ready to flee should the fire extended to their areas.

Lagos State Fire Service Chief Public Affairs Officer, Jamiu Dosunmu said three fire stations -Agege, Abesan and Alausa were battling with the fire.

Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) General Manager, Mosimi, Deport, Ogun State said they have shut down the line to reduce the intensity of the fire.
