Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola has nominated Justice Foluke Awolalu as the substantive President of the Customary Court of Appeal.

NAN reports that the letter, seeking Awolalu’s confirmation, was read at the House of Assembly by the Speaker, Timothy Owoeye.

Owoeye said Justice Awolalu was expected to appear before the Assembly for screening.

According to him, the governor’s action was in accordance with Section 281(1) of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

He directed the nominee to submit 35 copies of her credentials to the Assembly not later than today. Awolalu was also directed to appear for screening tomorrow.

The speaker promised that the Seventh Assembly will adhere strictly to the legislative agenda it had set out, saying it will not fail to represent the people in accordance with the laws of the land.

The last president of the Customary Court of Appeal, Justice Gloria Oladoke, died on September 20, 2019.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has appealed to Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola repair roads across state- owned institutions.

The Southwest Coordinator, Mr. Kowe Abiodun, made the appeal in a statement yesterday in Abeokuta.

Abiodun noted that education remained the bedrock of any nation. He said it was important for the government to make its academic environments conducive for learning by providing them basic infrastructure.

The statement reads: “We were in Osun and visited some of the institutions where we saw some infrastructural decay, especially, roads. We appeal to the governor to rehabilitate these roads, most especially that of the Osun State College of Technology, Esa Oke.

“This is the best time to fix the roads because if not quickly addressed, they will constitute great threats to a conducive learning system.”

Abiodun lauded the governor’s achievements, which he said had contributed to better lives for the people.

He hinted that NANS was planning on how to bring the student unions of the six southwest states closer to their governors.

Such meeting, he said, will help to address grey areas affecting state-owned institutions. He added that it would also help to foster peace and make learning centres more conducive.
