Minister decries underutilisation of FCT Ultramodern youth centre

The Minister of State for FCT, Dr Ramatu  Aliyu, has expressed concern over the underutilisation of the FCT Ultra-Modern Youth Support Centre located at Nyanya in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

Aliyu made the statement while briefing newsmen shortly after inspecting facilities at the centre, on Thursday in Abuja.

Aliyu said the Federal Capital Territory Administration will partner with development partners to put the centre into good use to ensure that FCT youths acquire the skills needed for national development.

She, however, urged the youth to be vigilant and protect the facilities in the centre against criminals and vandals.

“It saddens me that we have an edifice like this not been put to the desire use require to impact positively on lives and quality of living of the FCT youths and women.

“But hopefully, we know that together we can, and united we can do it. We shall leave no stone on turn and we will look for development partners to assist FCT in this great journey to make living better and impact positively.

The minister, however, assured that in no distance time the facilities at the centre would be put into proper use for the benefits of all.

Aliyu, therefore, commended leadership of the FCT Social Development Secretariat for their efforts in engaging the youth on various skills acquisition programmes.

Also speaking, Mr Kasim Adebayo, Secretary-General, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) FCT Chapter, appealed to the FCT administration to create an enabling environment to assist the youth realise their potential.

“We realise that there is no room for white cola job anymore and the best way to go is to get skill acquisition and we are ready to learn so that we can be self-reliant.”

Also speaking, Mr Adamu Jiyaba, the Majidadin Nyanya Community, thanked the minister for her commitment toward addressing youth idleness in the FCT.

The Acting Secretary, FCT Social Development Secretariat, Mrs Safiya Umar restated the determination of the Secretariat to address the flights of youths, women and vulnerable groups in the territory. Nigeria News
