Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State Governor has assured pensioners in the state of  100% payment of pension allowance and as at when due.
The Governor gave the assurance  yesterday when he received the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners,  Nasarawa State Chapter at the Government House Lafia
According to the governor, “these are people who have served the state and local governments, they deserve to rest as they retire hence the need for the retirees to be given their allowances fully for them to begin a new phase in their lives with ease.
We have been talking to different organisations especially the development partners to find out if some of them have some kind of programmes for retirees and pensioners” Gov Sule stated.
Abdullahi Sule added that every issue presented by the union will be looked into and addressed based on the availability of resources.
“Am hoping that I will one day in Nasarawa State see a situation where pensioners don’t worry about the payment of their monthly pension allowance because they have been empowered” the Governor maintained.
Earlier, the Chairman of Pensioners Nasarawa state Chapter, Alhaji Musa Obakpa had appreciated the Governor for the move to end the percentage payment of pensions at both state and local government levels.

While applauding the Governor for fulfilling the fourteen points pledge in his inaugural speech and even more within the first 100 days in office, Obakpa said the Governor’s immediate compliance with the local government autonomy was a step worth commending.
The union then appealed to the  Governor to put modalities in place to ensure the sustainability of government in augmenting the shortfall in allocations to local governments in other to continue the full payment of salaries and pensions at the third tier of government.
While appealing for the implementation of the 12% and 33% increase in pension to those that retired before the new minimum wage, Obakpa enjoined the state government to authorize the local government authorities to carry out a verification exercise for Local government pensioners with the involvement of the union to ease the identification of eligible pensioners on the pension allowance payroll.
