An immediate past governor of a Northern state is desperate to take the reins from Babatunde Fowler at the Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS), a source has revealed.

According to a source close to the agency, the former governor who lost reelection is doing everything possible to succeed Mr Fowler at FIRS.

The source said that since he lost his bid for a second term, he has been angling for juicy positions in the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

“This is a man that is not popular with his people and for this reason lost reelection. He also failed to grow the IGR of his state,” the source told Chronicle NG.

Asked whether the governor is behind the stories flying across social media and main stream media, the source said, “I do not know but what I know is that he has FIRS on his sight and is working with some insiders to see how it can happen.

Reports in the media has described as laughable the idea that the former governor is jostling for the FIRS job, given that, he possesses a scanty academic qualifications and does not have the requisite experience for such a sensitive job.
