Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has condoled with Pa Reuben Fasoranti over the killing of his daughter Mrs Funke Olakunrin on Friday on the Benin-Ore-Lagos Expressway.
Prof Osinbajo who spoke to Pa Fasoranti, 94, via telephone said he prayed for him and the entire family on Saturday.
Olakunrin, 58, along with others ran into the barricade of the suspected Fulani herdsmen said to have been terrorising motorists on the expressway.
Sources said the assailants who tried to stop the vehicles opened fire on its occupants as the drivers of the vehicles tried to manoeuvre their way out of the barricade.
Reacting to the incident, the VP said, “I spoke earlier today with Pa. Reuben Fasoranti, on the sad news of the death of his daughter, Mrs Funke Olakunrin.
“I pray the Lord comforts him and the entire family. Our security agencies have been tasked with ensuring perpetrators of this crime are apprehended and brought to justice,” he said.
The Inspector General of Police has also echoed the VP, he assured the families of the victims that the perpetrators will be brought to book.
“The Ondo State Police Command, backed by Special Forces and seasoned investigators from the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) and the Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU) deployed from the Force Headquarters, Abuja have already commenced a massive manhunt for the killers with a view to tracking, arresting and bringing them to justice,” IGP Adamu said.
