A man who climbed onto the wing of a plane as it prepared to takeoff from Nigeria’s busiest airport has been arrested, authorities said.

Footage filmed by a passenger on the aircraft captures the man as he moves around the wing of the plane at the international airport in Lagos on Friday.

Panicked passengers appeared eager to flee the aircraft and called crew members to open the exit doors.

It was not clear how the man, who has not been identified, reached the Azman Air plane or what his intention was.

The intruder made his way to the aircraft on the runway as it waited for clearance from air traffic controllers, Federal Aviation Authority of Nigeria spokeswoman Henrietta Yakubu said.

Having spotted the man, the pilot of the aircraft apparently slowed down and later turned off the engine as the man continued to explore around the plane.

Mrs Yakubu said the plane was taxied back for a ‘thorough check’ before departing for Port Harcourt.

It was the latest Nigerian airport security breach.

In 2017, passengers on a private jet in Lagos said thieves forced open the cargo door and stole luggage.
