President Muhammadu Buhari has suspended the controversial Ruga Settlement Project, an initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture.

The President’s decision comes after days of public outcry and the seeming misconception about the Ruga Settlement Projects.

Ruga which was designed to stem the tide of herdsmen/farmers clashes across the country as been described by many commentators as an avenue to Islamize Nigeria.

Some even said Ruga settlements will give Fulanis in-road into every state in the country. This thinking eventually led the President suspend the project..

The president, after consultations with stakeholders, THISDAY gathered, has resolved to put away the idea for a thorough review and well acceptable approach to the menace constituted to national security by the constant clashes between herdsmen and farmers.

A presidency source that hinted at this development, said the announcement would be made any moment from now with detailed explanations, going forward.

Nigerians had called for the implementation of the National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP) who was approved by 36 state governors at the National Economic Council.

NLTP advocates for ranching which is practiced everywhere in the world.
