It has been revealed that the senate appropriated funds for the establishment of a Catastrophic Health Fund in the 2019 budget, which was recently passed by the joint houses of the National Assembly.

The Fund will be for the support and financing of treatment of people suffering from the three top range of cancers in Nigeria— cervical, breast and prostrate cancer.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Lanre Tejuoso, made this known to reporters during the free medical fair in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital on Saturday.

According to him, it took an unusual and uncommon courage to convince the leadership and colleagues to fully appropriate the funds for the first time in Nigeria.

Tejuoso added that the National Assembly “is in the final process of passing the legislative framework that will make Health Insurance Mandatory in Nigeria”

He noted that the Federal Capital Territory, Health insurance and SPHCDA are also included.
