The presidential candidate and national chairman of the African Action Congress (AAC) has been suspended by the National Executive Committee (NEC) on Monday.
The party announced in Abuja that Omoyele Sowore was suspended for alleged anti-party activities, failure to convene NEC meeting and financial misappropriation.
Shortly after the suspension of Mr. Sowore was announced AAC NEC appointed Leonard Nzenwa as the acting national chairman of the party.
He has since been sworn-in by the NEC during a live broadcast on national television.
AAC NEC also announced the suspension of other members of his executive.
The six-month suspension of Mr. Sowore and other executives took effect from March 27.
AAC NEC announced that it can however be overturned by a National Convention of the party.
