The Lagos State Government has dismissed reports that there was a building collapse on 57, Egerton Square, Oke Arin, Lagos Island on Monday.

Some online reports claimed that many were feared dead and other trapped in the building but the Lagos government has since squashed the rumour.

General Manager of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Adesina Tiamiyu explained that it was the state government who actually demolished the said building.

“The Lagos State Building Control Agency, (LASBCA) were demolishing the building on Egerton Square and four scavengers got injured while trying to pick up something from the building.

“The officials were on top of the building when some scavengers tried to remove the doors on the ground floor & the remaining parts of the building collapsed on them,” LASEMA said on its Twitter account.
