The All Progressives Congress has claimed that it has held a “successful meeting” with Social Democratic Party governorship candidate, Senator Iyiola Omisore.

Although it is unclear whether Omisore will support either the APC or PDP in the rerun elections slated for 27 September.

Omisore has made it clear that he is yet to support either the PDP candidate, Ademola Adeleke or APC’s Gboyega Oyetola.

On Wednesday, Omisore met a powerful delegation of the APC, led by the national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, four governors- Abubakar Badaru, Abdullahi Ganduje, Ibikunle Amosun and Abiola Ajimobi and Ekiti-governor elect, Kayode Fayemi along with the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed.

Also boosting the chances of the APC candidate is the deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Yusuf Lasun.

The APC lost in Orolu Local Government Area, which is believed to be Lasun’s stronghold. He is known to be aggrieved with APC leaders.

After the meeting, the party tweeted, “Ahead of Thursday’s Osun Governorship rerun election, Party leaders had a successful meeting with Chief Iyiola Omisore in Osogbo,” without confirming if he will support the party.

Saturday’s election was declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which ordered the supplementary election in seven polling units in four local governments – Osogbo, Orolu, Ife North and Ife South.

There are 3, 498 registered voters in the polling units where the elections were cancelled due to various reasons, including hijacking of election materials, abscondment of presiding officer, disruption of election by hoodlums who were shooting sporadically, manual accreditation and over voting.

The supplementary election is a straight fight between Oyetola and Adeleke.

Adeleke has a marginal 353 votes advantage in the election in which Omisore finished third.

On Monday, he received Senate President Bokola Saraki, who came to lobby him to support the PDP.

Omisore, who left the PDP for the SDP because the PDP ticket was skewed in favour of Adeleke, declined to give Saraki his commitment.
