Former Cross River State governor, Donald Duke, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
He made the announcement on Tuesday at the National Secretariat of the SDP, where he revealed that he will be running for the office of the President come 2019.
Duke was received by the party’s National Secretary, Mr. Shehu Gabam, and other officials of the party.
The former governor had earlier showed interest in running for Presidency under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Duke recently came under for comments he made on homosexuals in Nigeria, stressing that, his statement was misunderstood.
“Recently, a statement I made during an interview concerning gay rights and homosexuality has been construed as my affirmation of homosexuality and same sex marriage,” he said.
“Nothing is further from the truth. Homosexuality is a crime in Nigeria and ought to remain so.
“What I however did say is that I would not go seeking homosexuals for prosecution and this is liable to abuses and as such would rather not delve into the sexuality of an individual.
“For the avoidance of doubt, our law on homosexuality stands in fact and in my moral rectitude.”
