Prime Minister Theresa May and President Muhammadu Buhari at 10 Downing Street

Prime Minister Theresa May received President Muhammadu Buhari at 10 Downing Street as they held Nigeria – British relations talks.

They discussed economic issues, security and terrorism. At the end of his bilateral meeting with Prime Minister, Buhari thanked her for Britain’s efforts at the training of the Nigerian Armed forces in fighting Boko Haram.

Buhari who left Abuja for the UK on Monday has held meeting with Archbishop of Canterbury, Archbishop Justin Welby and Nigerians in Diaspora.



He is also scheduled to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Summit which begins in London on 18 April and ends on 20 April.

Buhari will be guest of US President Donald Trump who has invited him for talks on 30 April in Washington, the White House announced on Sunday.

According to the statement, Trump will discuss issues such as promoting economic growth and fighting terrorism with Buhari.

“President Trump looks forward to discussing ways to enhance our strategic partnership and advance our shared priorities,” White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said in a statement.

The priorities include “promoting economic growth and reforms, fighting terrorism and other threats to peace and security, and building on Nigeria’s role as a democratic leader in the region”, she said.

Buhari and Trump are both seeking re-election in office.
