President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to return weekend

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to return home from medical leave at the weekend, presidency sources told Reuters on Tuesday.

Buhari travelled to Britain on May 7 in relation to an undisclosed ailment and handed over power to his deputy, Yemi Osinbajo.

Early Tuesday, Nigeria’s First Lady, Aisha Buhari said her husband’s health is improving after he has spent nearly one month in a London hospital for an unspecified illness.

President Buhari’s ill health has prompted fears as this is the second time this year he has been abroad for extended medical treatment.

On her return, Aisha Buhari thanked Osinbajo for his work and said her husband would return “soon… as he is recuperating fast”, without elaborating.

Before his latest trip, Buhari had previously spent almost two months in Britain being treated for what he described as one of the worst illnesses of his life.

The presidency has repeatedly rejected rumours that Buhari is terminally ill or even dead but refused to disclose his illness or what treatment he is having.
