Dominic Solanke has refused to sign a new deal at Chelsea after limited playing time

Liverpool are set to sign striker Dominic Solanke from Chelsea according to reports in the media.

The 19-year-old has failed to agree terms on a new contract with Champions Chelsea, and will opt to join Jurgen Klopp at Anfield instead, the Press Association reports.

The Reds have beaten off competition from a number of Premier League clubs, Celtic and RB Leipzig.

A fee will be decided by a tribunal and Solanke will initially go into Liverpool’s Under-23 side.

As Solanke is over 17 and in line to sign a professional contract, the club’s transfer embargo – which applies to signing academy players from other English league clubs for two years – does not apply.

Solanke made his senior debut for Chelsea at the age of 17 in 2014 but has failed to break through since and spent last season on loan at Vitesse Arnhem.

It is believed negotiations over his contract at Stamford Bridge faltered over his concerns about a lack of playing time.

The highly rated forward is currently playing for England at the Under-20 World Cup in South Korea.
