Ogun politician, Olatunji Sokunbi was attacked at his home

Olatunji Sokunbi, a politician in Ogun state, Southwest Nigeria has been attacked by gunmen. The gunmen, who bombarded his home with firearms and charms.

Sokunbi who recounted the attack to journalists noted that the attack happened in the presence of his parents on 24 December 2016 was politically motivated by some bigwigs in the state.

He noted that he has been attacked previously at different times, stressing that, they were all politically motivated. “I was attacked in my house, right in front of my parent at No 66, Ofada Road, Owode Egba in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State,” he said.

Sokunbi who narrated the encounter trembling said the group of thugs who were 10 in number are loyalists of Senator Buruji Kashamu.

“They stormed my residence on December 24, 2016 while we were preparing for the Christmas Eve feast.

“I just arrived from a meeting and as I was playing with my kids and preparing for supper, I had some people asking after me.

“For some reasons, I was curious and I decided to peep from the window and to my bewilderment I saw heavily built men at my door.

He explained that he immediately sought an escape route. “My aged father was knocked down by one of the thugs by lashing a heavy fist on his face,” he said.

“He never recovered from the shock till his death on the third day. I was consequently descended on, macheted and giving a lot of beating of my life.

Sokunbi called on Ogun Police and the state government to intervene. “The government and police force need to do more. I could easily have died along with my father for political reasons.

He however vowed to continue to fight for what he believes in. “I believe in my ideals and philosophy and would not be forced to run from politics but the federal and state government should ensure our safety and do more.
