Olukoyede Corps members 15 abducted NYSC members gain freedom in Anambra

A total of 15 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who had just finished their orientation in Imo were kidnapped, but police officers in Anambra rescued them.

When they were kidnapped, the corps members from the NYSC orientation camp at Eziama-Obaire, Nkwerre, Local Government Area of Imo, were in a car traveling to Lagos.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Anambra, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated this in a statement on Tuesday in Awka.

He claimed that around 12:15 in the morning, police officers reacted to a distress call along the Isseke, Ihiala-Orlu expressway and rescued the 15 abducted corps members without incident.

“Information reveals that the corps members finished their three weeks of orientation program today and were en route to Lagos before their vehicle was intercepted at the Total junction in Ihiala by unidentified armed men in a white Toyota Hilux.

“The corps member’s vehicle was diverted to Isseke, Ihiala-Orlu expressway where the gunmen kept them hostage.

“When the armed men noticed they were being followed by police operatives, they abandoned the corps members and zoomed off with the Toyota Hiace bus with Registration number EPE 353 YE,” he said.

Ikenga said that the corps members were debriefed and necessary arrangements had been made to convey them to their destinations.
